Community Scratch Orchestra
Join our Community Scratch Orchestra for an epic, one day adventure of music, mayhem and magic!
Imagine this…
A room full of musicians. Strings, brass, drums, guitars, keyboards, whistles, accordions, voices. Beginners and pros. Children and grandparents. All creating something extraordinary — in just one day.
Come and be part of our Community Orchestra!
Whether you’ve been playing for 30 years or 3 weeks — whether you sing in the shower or on the stage — you are invited. No auditions. No pressure. Just creativity, connection and the joy of making music together.
Come on this musical adventure with me!
We’ll spend the day:
• Creating bold, experimental, beautiful music together
• Sharing food and laughter
• Shaping something completely unique
• And at 4pm… performing what we’ve made for our families and friends
We’ll build a performance from scratch in a single day. And it will be magical.
It’s ok I’ve done it before…
In 2019, I (Kin) ran a project like this in Portugal bringing together around 70 people aged 5 to 82, from many countries and all levels of experience. Together we created something powerful and moving, which we performed in the town square. That project took six sessions…
This time?
We have just one day.
So it’s going to be very exciting for me and you!
The music we create will depend entirely on who walks through the door and what emerges in the moment. I won’t know exactly what we’re making until we begin — but don’t worry… I have plenty of ideas ready to help you sound amazing.
The Plan
10:00am – Arrive, set up, start with some conducting concepts to get you playing together. We’ll workshop some ideas and get to know each other musically. We’ll then develop some ideas for our pieces…
12:30 Shared lunch break – Bring something delicious to share
1:30 Shape and polish our creation
4:00pm – Informal performance for family & friends (around 20 minutes)
What to Bring
• Your instrument (or your voice!)
• A music stand
• Something to write on and with
• A vegetarian dish to share (with a label of ingredients)
Who Can Join?
Everyone.
All ages. All abilities. All backgrounds.
If children under 10 would like to join, please accompany them — and if you don’t play an instrument, you can join the choir!
There is no selection process. I simply need to know:
• What instrument you play (or if you sing)
• Your level of experience
This helps me shape the day.
